Milik | “I’m sorry for missed chances versus Genk”

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik made an apology for missing chances in his side’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Genk in the Champions League, but admitted he would like to be featured more regularly in the starting XI.

“Versus Genk I was particularly sorry about the third chance I missed. I hadn’t played in a month, I was lacking that instinct and faith in myself.

“My relationship with [Carlo] Ancelotti? At Napoli, there is a lot of rotation and it’s difficult to guess if you will be left out or not, but it’s no good to make excuses and instead I must make the position my own.

“Of course, at the moment it’s not easy. However, I must continue to work hard with patience and consistency, only these things will help me to achieve that consistency.

“[Fernando] Llorente? Competition is a good thing, and I have a lot to learn from him. I am definitely at my best when I play in the middle of the attack. I think our best formation is when [Dries] Mertens and [Lorenzo] Insigne flank a central striker.

“At Napoli there is a fiery atmosphere. People live for football. They comment on every match, they know every single player. They can be critical but mostly they are warm and encouraging. I’ve always felt, especially during the times when I was out injured, that they are waiting for me to return to the side.”
