Brescia forfeit from Coppa Italia fixture due to Covid-19 cases

Serie B side Brescia have announced today that they did not travel for their Coppa Italia round of 32 fixture away to Empoli, after several Covid-19 cases were found within the squad set to travel. The game was set to take place this afternoon.

As a result, the Lombardy club will effectively forfeit from the competition, with this afternoon’s announcement explaining that the development of a cluster within the squad would have compromised the rest of the Serie B campaign.

Although training resumed this morning for the players, Brescia are nonetheless expected to be handed a 3-0 forfeit loss, granting Empoli a place in the next round.
