Chiellini on a possible retirement: “I’ll play another year, then I’ll see how the legs hold up.”

In an interview over Instagram Live, transcribed in Sky Sport Italia, Giorgio Chiellini discussed the prospect of retiring after next year’s European Championships, as he recovers from a minor muscle issue to return to action this season.

“I’ll play another year, then I’ll see how the legs hold up. It might be that I stop next year, or do another one after that. I would like to stay in football afterwards because it’s my life, I’d prefer a role as a director than one on the pitch, but in life you never know. I’d like to reach [the Euros] in peak condition so I can experience this final international tournament to the fullest.”

“We have expert players and so many good young players. Playing in Rome will give us strength and responsibility. Finishing off with a great Euros would be a great satisfaction, to close off the cycle.”
