Chiellini on playing football as Covid-19 cases rise: “We know there are risks, and we are willing to take them.”

In a press conference ahead of Italy’s Nations League clash against The Netherlands, Giorgio Chiellini – his words transcribed by Sky Italia – touched on the potential risks being taken during the international break, with Covid-19 cases on the rise in Europe.

“We footballers know there are risks, and we are willing to take them, as we try to minimise them as much as possible with all the necessary precautions.”

“We’re not surprised by this rise in cases. We have to go on because we know football is a financial movement, as well as because of the social value we know we have. There will be other closures in the next few weeks, and I think that football is important to people.”
