Daniele Bonera plays down Scudetto talk as Milan stay top after win in Napoli

Speaking after stepping in for Stefano Pioli to oversee Milan’s 3-1 win over Napoli, Daniele Bonera has played down talks of a title challenge. His words transcribed by Gazzetta dello Sport, the former defender also gave an update regarding Zlatan Ibrahimović’s potential injury, with the Swede limping off with what appeared to be a hamstring issue after scoring a brace this evening.

“I don’t have any major information [regarding Ibrahimović’s injury], he had ice on his thigh – we’ll see what the medical exams say in the next few days. He’s not one to leave the pitch often.”

“The win strengthens us, we’re heading in the right direction, but it’s pointless to talk about something that’s awarded in May [the Scudetto] on the eighth matchday. [Stefano] Pioli was very pleased and has already spoken with the team.”

“There are teams that have invested more than us and which are built to win straight away; we’re not built to win straight away but we’re growing game by game and it’s great to be staying on top.”
