Napoli’s Champions League last 16 return leg against Barcelona, set to be played on August 8, has been at risk of being moved elsewhere as a result of the recent Covid-19 outbreak in Catalonia. UEFA, contacted by Italian news agency ANSA, has assured that they would monitor the situation and that they were cooperating with local authorities to make sure the game went ahead.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has nevertheless criticised this stance – his words transcribed in Sky Sport Italia – suggesting that the game be moved to Portugal or German just as the other European competition fixtures have been.
“If they’ve decided to play the Champions League in Portugal and the Europa League in Germany, we could also play the final last 16 games in those countries – I don’t see why we should stay in a city which at the moment presents great problems.”
