Napoli appeal over forfeit loss against Juventus rejected

Napoli have seen their appeal over the 3-0 forfeit defeat against Juventus and point deduction turned down by the Italian FA’s sporting tribunal, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Azzurri had been handed a 3-0 loss after being barred from travelling to Turin by local health authorities, after two players in the squad had tested positive for Covid-19 – namely Piotr Zieliński and Eljif Elmas.

With the Napoli remaining in Campania, the Juventus squad went ahead with their match-day preparation, showing on the the stadium and kicking off, with their rivals still on the other side of the country. The referee eventually blew the final whistle on 45 minutes, and the match was abandoned.

The league’s sporting judge had initally inflicted the punishment on the Azzurri, which was subject to appeal and set to be decided by Italian FA, which has chosen to maintain the penalty on Gennaro Gattuso’s side, who now remain 3rd in Serie A.
