Italy’s team doctor Andrea Ferretti has announced that forward Stephan El Shaarawy has tested positive for Covid-19 whilst with the national squad, in a press conference transcribed in Sky Sport Italia.
Ferretti explained that the winger’s test was the only one that came back positive out of those who had undergone one when the team touched down in Bergamo yesterday. Nevertheless, he added that El Shaarawy’s test showed only a minor trace of the virus, meaning the test could have been a false positive. In addition, the player’s serological test came back negative.
As the Italy squad wait for additional test results, the players will practise social distancing in training sessions.
