Pepe Reina has European clause in his Lazio deal

Lazio goalkeeper and ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has a clause pertaining to the Biancocelesti’s finishing position in the league in his current deal.

La Repubblica have claimed that while the Spaniard’s contract situation is uncertain, his deal will be renewed for another season if the Rome-based club qualify for Europe. It will be triggered not just when they qualify for the Champions League but also if they qualify for the Europa League.

His current deal expires in 2022, so if Maurizio Sarri’s side make it to Europe next season, his deal will be extended till 2023. The report goes on to state that this could force Thomas Strakosha to leave the club in an attempt to get regular first-team football.
