Roma and Arsenal close to agreement for Granit Xhaka

Jose Mourinho’s Roma and Premier League side Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement for Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, reports Sky Sport journalist Angelo Mangiante.

The journalist has stated that the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach man will join Roma’s training camp in Algarve next week, with Mourinho now pushing for a move for Xhaka and a deal is reportedly ‘almost done’.

Calciomercato have also claimed that Roma’s move for Xhaka is ‘nearing completion’, with the Swiss star expected to earn €2.5 million per season.

Roma had begun negotiations with an offer of €13 million plus bonuses of around €5 million but Arsenal wanted a fee of around €20 million. But the deal could now be done before the weekend, as Mourinho considers Xhaka to be a fundamental part of his system.

Mourinho wants Xhaka to play in front of his defence, between Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante.
