Barcelona loanee Samuel Umtiti set for his Serie A debut against Roma

Samuel Umtiti will finally make his Serie A debut on Sunday against Roma. He left Barcelona for newly-promoted Serie A club Lecce on a season-long loan deal in the last summer transfer window.

However, it has not been a perfect start to his life in Italy for the Frenchman, with Umtiti having failed to make an appearance for his new club thus far.

Now it appears as if the wait is over for the 28-year-old, with the defender expected to start on Sunday evening as Roma host Lecce in Serie A.

In the pre-match press conference, Lecce manager Marco Baroni confirmed that he would hand Umtiti his much-awaited league debut on Sunday. As quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, Baroni said:

“Umtiti is well, I’ll make my choice conscious of having more starters in every position on the pitch. For Samuel, however, it could be the right opportunity, there is everything to be his match. We will face a solid, physical team that has structure and knows how to hurt on set pieces. And then there’s Mourinho, who always wants to win. We know they have great resources, but we will go to the Olimpico with determination.”
