Serie A side Lecce are close to signing Samuel Umtiti on loan from Barcelona amid this dying phase of the summer transfer window.
According to what is reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Lecce are one step away from signing Samuel Umtiti on a season-long loan from Barcelona. The sporting director of Lecce, Pantaleo Corvino, is reportedly in contact with the Barca managers to conclude the deal for the Frenchman as early as possible.
Having failed to break into the first team of Barcelona under the management of Xavi, Samuel Umtiti has sought to make a switch this summer, with Lecce emerging as a potential suitor for the 28-year-old.
Over the last few years, Umtiti has sustained a horrendous number of injuries, subsequently reducing his overall value in the market. Last season, he could make only one appearance for La Blaugrana throughout the 2022/23 season, owing to several fitness issues.
But he could prove to be a great addition to the Serie A newcomers. With a remarkable pedigree in the intentional circuit, he could get another shot at the revival in a new league. Lecce will also be benefited from the defender’s leadership qualities and his presence in the dressing room.
