Chelsea’s interest in Rafael Leão causing difficulties in Milan’s renewal plans

Milan are concerned over the future of Rafael Leão, with Premier League club Chelsea keenly monitoring the Portuguese’s situation at the Italian club.

According to what is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are encountering difficulties in their plan to renew Rafael Leão’s contract with the Scudetto holders as Chelsea remain determined in the pursuit of the 23-year-old attacker.

Leão’s current terms at Milan expire in June 2024. But the report understands that the Rossoneri management is eager to extend his contract as quickly as possible to put the rumours around the player’s future to bed.

Besides Chelsea’s interest, a fine of almost €20 million that was imposed on Leão as a result of his controversial transfer from Sporting to Lille has made the situation much worse for the Rossoneri.

As of now, Jorge Mendes has not taken the middle seat to mediate the winger’s future. In the 2022/23 season, the former Sporting CP sensation has amassed three goals and six assists from eight matches in all competitions.
