Empoli leading a three-horse race for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu

Ethan Ampadu has amassed serious interest from clubs in Italy. The versatile defender will leave Chelsea this summer, with Empoli, Spezia, and Cremonese yearning for his services.

Sky Italia report that Empoli are currently leading the race for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu, with the player’s healthy relationship with Paolo Zanetti putting the Tuscan club in a favourable position.

Having failed to break into the senior Chelsea side, the Welshman has spent three loan spells over the last three campaigns. Last season, he joined Venezia on a season-long loan deal.

Under the stewardship of Zanetti, the 21-year-old made 30 appearances and added three assists to his name. But his efforts could not help Venezia avoid relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Zanetti is now at Empoli, trying to build a formidable squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The player is also liked by Spezia and Cremonese, but the Tuscan club is leading the race for the Wales international.
