Fiorentina considering a free transfer for Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli

Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli will leave the Rossoneri on a free transfer this summer, but his next destination remains far from settled.

According to La Nazione, Fiorentina are considering pushing for the transfer of Alessio Romagnoli, who has several admirers in the Florence-based club.

Having led them to their first Scudetto since the 2010/11 season, Romagnoli is set to leave Milan as a free agent this summer after his contract with the club expires in June 2022.

The Rossoneri are unwilling to match the defender’s demands for a contract renewal, making a separation almost imminent.

Maurizio Sarri and Lazio have reportedly been interested in making a move for the defender, who is seemingly a life-long Lazio supporter. But the player’s demands in regard to the salary have made it difficult for both parties to reach an agreement over a transfer.

Since joining Milan in 2015, Romagnoli has played 247 matches for the respective clubs. Despite him being a long-term servant for the current Scudetto holders, he is only 27 and has not lost his peak years either, meaning that any suitor, looking to secure his services this summer, will be able to obtain the centre-back’s best attributes possible.
