Inter will move for Chris Smalling if key condition is met

Inter could move in for Roma’s defender Chris Smalling if only the Englishman makes up his mind to depart Roma.

According to a report from FcInter1908, Inter are currently analysing the market for defenders as two of their centre-backs – Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are yet to negotiate an extension of their contracts with the club which ends next summer. Both are looking at clubs abroad as options for their futures.

Both the Dutch and Slovak defenders are expected to leave the Nerazzurri for a new challenge elsewhere and may depart for free if the chance arises. In that case, Inter won’t receive a transfer fee and will have to dig into their own resources to reinforce their defence and considering their challenging financial situation, the Milanese side will look for a cheap replacement.

Chris Smalling of Roma is the player desired by the Inter board as the British defender approaches the end of his contract with the Giallorossi. The 33-year-old hasn’t got any clear plans for his future and is expected to weigh up the offers he receives next summer. However, despite their interest in the Roma defender, Inter will only establish contacts and make a serious move if Smalling decides to leave the capital for a new challenge. The Nerazzurri do not want to indulge in a complex battle and will only move for the defender, if he makes up his mind to depart the Giallorossi.
