Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu on Milan: “I congratulated them on winning the Scudetto”

Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has spoken about his time at Milan, stating that he respects the club and congratulated his former teammates on winning the Scudetto.

Calhanoglu had joined Inter on a free transfer in the summer of 2021, after his contract at the Rossoneri had expired. He also scored against Milan last season and celebrated the goal too, leading to a criticism from a host of Milan supporters after that.

The Turkish midfielder has often operated in a deeper midfield role this season for Inter in the absence of Marcelo Brozovic. The 28-year-old has two goals and four assists in Serie A so far in the campaign.

He recently spoke to Corriere della Sera in a recent interview and he talked about Milan and his relationship with the club.

“I respect Milan, I have a good relationship with Pioli, Maldini and Massara. As a gentleman, I congratulated them on winning the Scudetto last season. Friends have no colors. But for me that’s the past, now I’m only thinking about Inter.”

He also spoke about how his playing style his changed, Calhanoglu stated that he is not a pure number ten anymore and he has now become much more than that.

He stated: “I think I’ve improved on this. Before I was more elegant, lighter, a classic number 10. I didn’t have the meanness I have today. Since I changed roles, I’ve been more aggressive and I run a lot, I sacrifice myself.”

Inter are currently fifth in the Serie A table and they are 11 points behind league leaders Napoli, who they face in their first game in the second half of the season.
