Milan join Roma and Napoli in the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie

Having missed out on Sven Botman, Milan have returned to race for a new defender this summer. Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie appears to have attracted interest from the Rossoneri.

According to journalist Daniele Longo, Piero Hincapie is now considered one of the top defensive targets for Milan.

In recent hours, the Rossoneri management has extensively evaluated two names. While Hincapie is one of them, Milan remain interested in Paris Saint Germain’s Abdou Diallo.

Piero Hincapie is bound to the Bundesliga side’s contract until June 2026, making his current club ask for a price of around €25-€30 million for the defender this summer.

Milan see this valuation as expensive. There is also external competition from Roma and Napoli, who have been monitoring the Ecuador international for some time now.

Furthermore, the German club is also willing to keep the 20-year-old for another season, with Leverkusen anticipating that a decent campaign for the Ecuadorian in the World Cup 2022 could lead them to sell the defender at a much higher price.

Therefore, Longo’s report understands that it would be easier for Milan to land Diallo this summer. As mentioned previously, Maldini and Massara made enquires for the Senelagese in the last winter transfer window.

This time, suitable circumstances could see Milan instigating the process of getting the 26-year-old on board.
