Napoli sporting director dismisses claims regarding Man Utd’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Napoli sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has dismissed the club’s interest in Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that they wanted to build a young team.

Napoli were heavily linked with a transfer for Ronaldo during the dying phase of the summer transfer window. There were even talks of a swap deal involving United’s Ronaldo and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Giuntoli confirmed that they pretended to chat with everyone in the summer. He said:

“During the transfer market we pretend to chat with everyone, and sometimes we do it for real. But we wanted to invest in a young team.”

Since enduring a torrid season with Manchester United last term, the 37-year-old has shown an interest in switching teams, with his eyes searching for that Champions League team in the market. But it appeared as if no one dared to lure the Portuguese phenomenon away from Old Trafford. In the 2022/23 season, Ronaldo has made seven appearances without scoring a goal so far.
