Napoli sporting director on Man Utd’s Cristiano Ronaldo: “There has never been anything concrete”

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Guintoli has revealed that no concrete talks had happened for the potential signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese striker wants out of Old Trafford and while his agent Jorge Mendes had offered Napoli a chance to sign the player, the deal didn’t materialise. Napoli had to sell Victor Osimhen to sign Ronaldo, or United had to pay a massive portion of the player’s wages to loan him out to the Maradona.

Nothing worked out in the end and Ronaldo seems set to stay at United and play in the Europa League. Guintoli spoke to DAZN (via Sky Italia) recently and he was asked about CR7.

He stated: “Cristiano Ronaldo is an extraordinary player, but there is nothing true.  We have read many things in the newspapers, we have an excellent relationship with his agent, but there has never been anything concrete.”

Ronaldo was said to be keen on playing for Napoli and Luciano Spalletti had also stated that anyone would love to coach the player. But despite Mendes’ best attempts at placing his client in Italy once again, the move didn’t go through and Napoli wanted to sell Osimhen before bringing in another striker.
