Napoli star eyes a move to Arsenal as the player wants assurance over Champions League football

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Napoli forward Victor Osimhen for a long time, with the Italian club determined to keep hold of the Nigerian.

A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Osimhen is eyeing a transfer to Premier League this summer. The report suggests that the Nigerian marksman would love to play for Arsenal next season. But before making any definitive decision on his future, Osimhen wants assurance over the London-based club’s credibility as a regular Champions League side.

Considered one of the top strikers in Serie A, the 23-year-old is willing to join a Premier League club that plays Champions League football every season. But with Arsenal having failed to qualify for the Champions League since the 2016/17 season, the player holds concerns over a potential move to Emirates Stadium.

It is understood that Arsenal have already taken a few concrete steps in an attempt to sign Osimhen this summer. But there is no agreement between the parties. Newcastle United remain another suitor for the striker. The Saudi Arabia-backed English side submitted a bid of around €100million for Osimhen in January 2022. But Napoli subsequently rebuffed the proposal. As things stand, Napoli’s current terms are bound to keep Osimhen at Naples until June 2025.
