Napoli want Giacomo Raspadori as a replacement for Dries Mertens

Napoli have lost two of their main forwards, namely Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne, in the same transfer window.  Giacomo Raspadori’s versatility seems to have impressed Luciano Spalletti.

According to Naples-based outlet Il Mattino, Napoli have identified Sassuolo’s Giacomo Raspadori as a suitable replacement for Dries Mertens.

Following the expiry of his contract with the Partenopei earlier this summer, Mertens had to part ways with the club. Although the Belgian forward was ready to lower his salary to extend his stay in Naples, Aurelio De Laurentiis opted against offering the superstar a new contract.

As a result, the Italian side is on the hunt for a replacement for their all-time leading goalscorer. The report suggests that Raspadori is eager to join a Champions League club this summer.

But while the player is keen on joining Napoli, Sassuolo are reluctant to lose another young talent following the reported departure of Gianluca Scamacca.

Napoli are also interested in signing Giovanni Simeone from Hellas Verona. But they will need to sanction the sales of Andrea Petagna and Adam Ounas before considering offering a suitable proposal to Hellas Verona for the Argentinian forward.

Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that the potential signing of Simeone doesn’t hamper Napoli’s interest in Raspadori.
