Napoli’s Giovanni Simeone could earn Argentina call-up

The Argentine national team is looking to call-up Giovanni Simeone to the World Cup side.

Simeone had impressed for Verona in Serie A last season and he scored 17 goals, racking up six assists for the Gialloblu. He joined Napoli in the summer and he has already scored two league goals. He has also scored two goals in the UEFA Champions League, scoring against Liverpool and Ajax.

Il Mattino have reported about the possibility of the striker getting called up by Argentina and it has been reported that the likelihood has increased. It has been said that many in the Argentine national team setup are pushing for Simeone’s selection for the World Cup, with the player’s last call-up to the team coming back in 2018.

An opportunity for the World Cup could be just around the corner, the report claims. While Luciano Spalletti is certainly sorry for not playing Simeone more regularly, he knows that the striker is someone he can rely on in times of need.
