Inter could not change positions in Group C, so there wasn’t a lot at stake against Bayern on Tuesday night.
The Nerazzurri, who made seven changes compared to the squad that won 3-0 against Sampdoria on Saturday, started off well. Inter arguably should’ve had a penalty for a Sadio Mané handball, but VAR couldn’t change referee Kruzliak’s mind.
After 32 minutes, Bayern made it 1-0 . Benjamin Pavard beat Lautaro (who’d just missed a big chance) in the air and found the net with a diagonal header.
Inter’s second half started even better than the first, with Acerbi heading Asllani’s free-kick past Ulreich, but the flag was up and the goal got ruled out. Bayern also went on to score an offside goal. Choupo-Moting acrobatically scored after the hour mark, but he was clearly offside. That wasn’t the case ten minutes later, when he found the top left corner with an amazing shot from the edge of the box. His goal also decided the final score: 2-0. Here are the player ratings from Inter’s loss:
Onana (6); Darmian (6), De Vrij (6), Acerbi (6); Bellanova (5.5), Gagliardini (5.5), Asllani (6) Barella (6.5), Gosens (6); Lautaro (5), Correa (5).
Substitutes: Džeko (6.5), Çalhanoğlu (6), Mkhitaryan (6), Škriniar (N/A), Carboni (N/A).
