“The rumours about Real Madrid make me happy,” Milan’s Rafael Leao questions his future in Serie A

Rafael Leao has received heaps of plaudits for his contribution to Milan’s latest Scudetto victory, with the Rossoneri reportedly looking to extend his contract.

The Portuguese sensation, however, has questioned his long-term future at Milan, admitting that the rumours regarding a to Real Madrid make him happy. As quoted by Sportmediaset, the 22-year-old said,

“I’m at Milan and I have another two years of contract. I’m happy that Maldini and the club consider me untouchable, I feel at home, but at the moment my focus is on the national team. The rumours about Real Madrid and my future make me happy, but my feet are firmly on the ground.”

He also shed light on the journey that has helped him grow over the years and reach the point of success that he is currently enjoying with the Rossoneri. He continued:

“It is a pride to work with players with a lot of experience, they help you to grow. As for my evolution, I left Sporting young and I went to Lille, people may not know it, but Ligue 1 is a strong league, I have evolved. Two years have not gone as I would have liked, but now I am more mature and confident , the season has gone as I wanted . to do great things in the future . I want to be a point of reference in my club and in the national team…The highest point, for example, would be to win a World Cup.”

Following a stellar season, the 22-year-old winger has been included in the senior national team for Portugal’s upcoming matches in the UEFA Nations League.

The scorer of 11 Serie A goals this season has a contract at Milan until June 2024. His current contract includes a massive release clause of  €150 million. The Rossoneri management doesn’t wish to part ways with Leao in the summer. Instead, they could extend his contract until 2026. An extension will understandably mean a rise in the paycheck as well.
