Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo set to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks with an injury

Nicolò Zaniolo could be out for a month with a shoulder injury that he sustained after awkwardly falling on his left shoulder following a robust challenge from Cremonese defender Luka Lochoshvili.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Forza Roma), the test carried out by Roma on Zaniolo has revealed that the Italian attacker dislocated his shoulder during the first half of the match against the newly-promoted Serie A side on Monday.

The report anticipates that the 23-year-old will be forced to stay out of action for a spell between three and four weeks.

Discussing Zaniolo’s injury in the post-match press conference, Roma manager Jose Mourinho said,

“Injuries are part of a footballer’s life, crying doesn’t help. We lost a fundamental player, who was creating so many difficulties at Cremonese, opening spaces. Losing him like this is hard. We had strategies in mind, now we find ourselves with two players out and there are few of us.”

Zaniolo is expected to miss Roma’s next fixtures against Juventus, Monza, Udinese, Empoli, Atalanta, and the first two group-stage matches in this season’s UEFA Europa League.
