Salernitana president: “If Juventus want to play again, there is no problem”

Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino has accepted that VAR made a blunder which favoured them in the game against Juventus on Sunday evening.

Speaking to Kiss Kiss Napoli (via La Gazzetta dello Sport), Iervolino admitted that his team would be ready to play a re-match against Juventus. He said:

“The referee error in Juventus-Salernitana? If the Bianconeri want to play it again, there is no problem for us.”

VAR wrongly decided to chalk off Arkadiusz Milik’s last-minute goal after Leonardo Bonucci, who had played an active part in the sequence leading to what could have been a match-winner for the Old Lady, was deemed offside.

Following the 2-2 draw, replays from other angels revealed that Antonio Candreva was keeping the whole line of Juventus onside.

In the aftermath of the controversy, the Italian Referees Association acknowledged the misconduct, stating that they didn’t have access to all angles. Juve have not issued any official statement yet as they are reportedly focusing on hosting Benfica in their second round of UEFA Champions League group stage fixtures on Wednesday evening.
