Serie A PREVIEW | Napoli vs Bologna

After another hugely impressive performance in Europe against Ajax, high flyers Napoli return to domestic action as they host the struggling Bologna.

Still unbeaten this season and sitting pretty at the peak of the Serie A table, Luciano Spalletti’s men from Naples are the current runaway Scudetto contenders, some even tipping them as the ones to watch in the Champions League too. Napoli have won 10 of their last 12 and have averaged 2.18 goals per game in 2022, so its clear to see why they are so highly rated.

Bologna have not enjoyed the same form, with only one win in their last six. Sitting in 17th only two points clear of the relegation zone, it would appear on paper that Napoli will run out convincing winners, football however isn’t played on paper.

One stat of interest to Bologna fans might be that their manager Thiago Motta remains unbeaten against Napoli in his managerial career. However to continue this would likely take a large slice of luck.

Team News

Napoli will be without Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa in midfield as he picked up a thigh injury midweek, Amir Rrahmani remains a huge doubt for Spalletti’s side, however the return of Victor Osimhen should bring some joy for fans.

Meanwhile for Bologna, Talisman Marko Arnautovic has been sidelined by a back injury, with Motta already confirming that former Bayern youth prospect Joshua Zirkzee will stand in.

Predicted XI’s

Napoli XI

Napoli
Meret; Di Lorenzo, Ostigard, Kim, Rui; Zielinski, Lobotka, Ndombele; Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia

Bologna XI

Bologna
Skorupski; Posch, Soumaoro, Lucumi, Lykogiannis; Schouten, Medel; Orsolini, Dominguez, Barrow; Zirkzee

This game should be a no contest with two teams at either end of the Serie A spectrum, fully expect Napoli to run away convincing winners in this game. However as football so often teaches us, you can’t ever rule out the underdog.
