The numbers behind Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s excellent Serie A season

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is once again showing why many name him Serie A’s best midfielder this season. The Serbian will try to continue his and Lazio’s great start of the season against Salernitana at the Olimpico.

It’s already Milinkovic-Savic’ eighth season in the shirt of the Biancocelesti after he arrived from Belgian side Genk in 2015. In every transfer window, he gets linked to a number of teams (Juventus and Manchester United, for example), but a move never really came off the ground. Perhaps that is also due to Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who now says that Milinkovic-Savic is worth €120 million.

Lotito told Il Messaggero recently: “I’m not gonna sell Sergej, it’s not in my plans. I will offer him a new long term deal”.

Lazio currently sit third in Serie A, an accomplishment in which Milinkovic-Savic has played a big part in. The Serbian midfielder has scored three goals and given seven assists (most in Serie A) in eleven league games.

In the Europa League, Lazio are top of their group after five games, with both two goals and assists for Milinkovic-Savic. He is ranked second in goal involvements in all competitions out of all midfielders that play in the top 5 European Leagues, according to Opta. Only Kevin de Bruyne has contributed to more goals.

Salernitana surely know who to look out for on their trip to Rome this Sunday.
