Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund tried to sign Juventus’ Denis Zakaria before Chelsea move

Chelsea’s London and Premier League rivals Tottenham had made an attempt to sign midfielder Denis Zakaria in the summer transfer window.

The Bianconeri will have a new-look midfield this season, with Arthur having joined Liverpool on loan and Zakaria having joined Chelsea on an initial loan deal, with the Blues having an option to buy. Juve have also revealed in their statement that Liverpool will also have the option to buy for Arthur.

Giovanni Albanese has reported that the Bianconeri had initially considered Zakaria to be an unsellable asset and the same was true for Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie. But Spurs made an attempt for Zakaria and formal talks never took off. Borussia Dortmund also came forward and they had kept an eye on him in the past too.

Zakaria had received good offers from both Roma and Monaco as well, but it was Chelsea whose offer has helped Juventus cover all their salary for the Swiss midfielder.

The Bianconeri were forced to move on Zakaria largely due to the finances they had to bear from the signing of Paul Pogba.
