Tottenham made summer attempt for Romaโ€™s Nicolo Zaniolo

Premier League side Tottenham had made an attempt to sign Romaโ€™s Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer transfer window.

Spurs were linked with a move for Zaniolo in the summer and so were Juventus, who were said to have backed away due to the Giallorossiโ€™s demands.

Gianluca di Marzio, during a chat with Wettfreunde, has revealed that Spurs were the only club that tried to sign Zaniolo but their attempts had failed. He also revealed that there is a possibility of Spurs returning to chase the Italy international once again because of Fabio Paraticiโ€™s liking for the player.

The journalist stated: โ€œNicolo Zaniolo only had one real approach in the summer and that was from Tottenham. Tottenham tried to get him but with a swap deal with other players or a loan option and Roma didnโ€™t want to sell the player under those conditions.โ€

The journalist also revealed that there is no chance that Arsenal go for him, despite a delicate contract situation: โ€œLike Rafael Leรฃo and Milan ล kriniar, itโ€™s about Zanioloโ€™s contract. It depends on whether or not Roma will renew Zanioloโ€™s contract because his contract expires in a year and a half so they need to renew his contract if they want the contractual power if the player makes a request.ย Arsenal or other clubs? No.โ€

Di Marzio did reveal though, that one canโ€™t rule out Spurs moving for the forward once again at some point in the future.

โ€œOnly Tottenham can come back because Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is one of the sporting directors who has wanted Zaniolo for a long time โ€“ even when he was at Juventus.โ€

Zaniolo did feature for Roma against Sampdoria yesterday but despite a couple of very good chances, he couldnโ€™t find the back of the net.
