UEFA Champions League PREVIEW | Napoli vs Liverpool

Napoli welcome Liverpool in what should be a noisy night at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as two titans of European football will be crossing paths.

Following a successful summer transfer window, the Italian side has made an unbeaten start to the season, winning three out of their five league matches. Liverpool’s only defeat in the Premier League came against Manchester United a fortnight ago.

With a squad plagued by injuries, Liverpool have done pretty well thus far. However, they are still on the hunt for their finest form.

Results in the last five matches:

Napoli: W-W-D-D-W

Liverpool: D-L-W-W-D

Team News:

Matteo Politano should come in the place of Hirving Lozano, who picked up a knock against Lazio at the weekend but has recovered in time for the game against the Reds. The Mexican should start the match on the bench.

Although Diogo Jota is now fit to play, Jurgen Klopp will reportedly rely on the services of Darwin Núñez up front. Liverpool have a long list of absentees. It includes star players such as Ibrahima Konaté, Joël Matip, Jordan Henderson, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Thiago is also working on getting his fitness back. Nevertheless, the trio of Elliott, Fabinho, and Milner should forge the midfield for the English club.

Predicted XIs:

Napoli (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Kim, Mario Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Milner; Salah, Nunez, Luis Diaz.

In all, it has all the ingredients to be a tight affair. A triumph against last season’s finalist will be a massive boost for Luciano Spalletti’s men.
