“We are to blame,” Gian Piero Gasperini reacts to Atalanta’s 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo

Atalanta were handed a massive blow to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season, with Sassuolo clinching a 2-1 win against La Dea.

In the post-match press conference, Gian Piero Gasperini was seen opening up on why his team failed to garner points on Sunday. Reacting to a question regarding the team’s performance against Sassuolo, Gasperini said,

“I think we did well behind. Duvan recovered the 90 minutes and showed that he is in good condition. Pessina played a decent game. The team also disengaged well but never found the passage, the shot, the situation, in order to become dangerous. After a good start at Sassuolo, we had several opportunities to be dangerous but we never managed to finish “

Atalanta have struggled to score goals recently. On the issue, the head coach remarked,

“We have always achieved a lot, but to score 10 goals you have to do 30 actions, it is not that all actions become goals. Today we did not achieve. We are to blame, there were situations.”

Hamed Traore picked up a brace on the afternoon, while Luis Muriel’s goal in the dying minutes did not come to recure the visitors. Following the defeat, Atalanta are now down to the eighth spot, having amassed 51 points from 31 games so far.
