Antonio Conte amongst candidates to become new Italy boss

Former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is amongst the candidates to become the next Italy boss and replace Roberto Mancini.

While both Fabio Cannavaro and Daniele de Rossi have been linked with the vacant role at the helm of affairs at the Azzurri, some new names have also emerged in the saga.

Sky Italia report that Conte is one name who is on the shortlist and another name is Luciano Spalletti, who left Napoli recently and is currently said to be on a sabbatical. Both are closer to the top of the shortlist that has been put together by the FIGC, with Mancini having communicated his decision to leave yesterday.

Serious work is ongoing to make sure that one of the two managers, with Spalletti waiting to have earned the money that Napoli still have to pay him after his exit. As for Conte, the issue is his salary. He is available, but FIGC can’t pay him the same amount as Tottenham did in his last job and they have kept a maximum limit for how much they can pay the next Italy boss.
