Fiorentina make history with Conference League final qualification

Fiorentina have reached the final of the Conference League final as they beat Basel 3-1 in extra-time in what was a tense game in Switzerland.

It was a goal from Antonin Barak in the 129th minute of the game that took La Viola to the final, where they take on West Ham. But with the qualification into the final, Fiorentina have now created history in European football. They are the only team in history to have qualified for four different European competitions’ finals.

While this is the first time they’ve reached the Conference League final, they made it to the Europa League final in 1990, when they lost to Juventus and they reached the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1961, when they managed to beat Rangers. La Viola reached the European Cup final way back in 1957, when they lost to Real Madrid.

While all the three achievements are from different eras but not long ago, Fiorentina were struggling in the relegation zone. It is a huge compliment to the work that Vincenzo Italiano has done at the club.
