Gianluigi Buffon edges close to retirement after rejecting huge Saudi offers

Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon edges close to retirement after rejecting high-value offers from Saudi Arabian clubs recently.

According to a report from Corriere Della Serra, Gianluigi Buffon wants to remain closer to his family in his twilight days as a footballer and has expressed disinterest towards the offers from Saudi Arabia which reportedly amounted to €30 million per year.

The 45-year-old is currently contemplating his future and will take the factors like fitness, mental energy and pressure into account before making a final decision.

Retirement is looming over the goalkeeping legend’s head as everything indicates the end of a glorifying career in world football. Parma will attempt to keep their academy graduate for another season as the player’s contract ends in the summer of 2024 but Buffon’s decision will be respected.

With 975 unbeaten games in the Serie A and a record 176 appearances with the Italy national team, Gigi Buffon will forever remain a legend of the game and will always be hailed for how he changed the sport in Italy.
