Gianluigi Donnarumma’s starting spot for Italy at risk

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s spot for the Italian national team is now at risk.

Corriere della Sera have reported about the situation of the Italian shot-stopper, stating that there are no guarantees anymore that Donnarumma will start regularly for the Azzurri, especially after his error against North Macedonia which led to the equaliser for the opposition.

He has come under heavy criticism and his spot is now in question, with Napoli’s Alex Meret and Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario potential replacements and they have done well for their clubs in recent weeks. It is not ruled out that Donnarumma gets benched by Luciano Spalletti in only his second game managing the national side after the draw against North Macedonia.

Having said that, new head of delegation Gianluigi Buffon has taken Donnarumma under his wing and he will try to help the Azzurri star regain confidence following his average showings in the recent games for the national side.
