Inter coach Simone Inzaghi following Monza win: “I’m satisfied, we prepared well for the match against a difficult opponent”

Following the Nerazzurri’s solid 2-0 win at the Stadio San Siro against Monza, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi provided his insight on the match.

Newly named skipper Lautaro Martinez paved the way for the Beneamata to attian three points against the Biancorossi, bagging a brace past shot-stopper Micehele Di Gregorio in courtesy of Dutchman Denzel Dumfries and former Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic.

With Inter having portrayed a disciplined and compact performance on Milanese soil, Inzaghi’s side managed to maintain a clean-sheet and remain on course with Napoli following the Partenopei’s 3-1 comeback victory against newly promoted side Frosinone.

While speaking to DAZN, as relayed by FcInter1908, Inzaghi expressed how he felt after starting this year’s campaign in a positive matter and touched upon the performances of newly acquired Nerazzurri players:

“I’m satisfied, we prepared well for the match against a difficult opponent like Monza, who offer excellent football. I saw the enthusiasm, also created by this sold-out stadium. We had an excellent match with some imperfections that we will try to fix, but I have good sensations. Defensive ferocity must be one of our strengths. The boys applied themselves: let’s not forget that Acerbi wasn’t there and that after a few minutes Darmian sprained his ankle. We were short in defence, but we always created chances. We definitely need to improve in the non-possession phase.

“Thuram? I am very satisfied with what he has done. He has come to tie the game and has attacked depth when he has to. He is someone who gives it his all, who works, improves more every day. The goal will come, perhaps he should have been tougher on a couple of occasions.

“Arnautovic? He made an excellent impact with San Siro and with his team-mates, he arrived charged up and we talked a lot. He’ll have his time to integrate.

Shortly after, the former Lazio coach hinted at the necessity of a sixth defender within the transfer market prior to the window closing at the end of August:

“Complete squad? No, we absolutely need a very important defender, because we are uncovered. The club knows this and is working 24 hours a day. There are objectives that we absolutely must achieve, not forgetting that we have lost important players for the championship. We all deserve it: from the coach to this splendid group.”
