Inter eyeing four names as Simone Inzaghi’s future complicates

Inter currently have four names on their shortlist, as they continue to consider Simone Inzaghi’s future.

The Nerazzurri lost to Fiorentina yesterday and this doesn’t just mean that they are in a top-four race but also the fact that they haven’t won even once in their last four games in all competitions.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Inzaghi can stay at Inter only one condition – if Inter finish inside the top four and qualify for the final of the Champions League. There is confusion at the club about the season and how it has gone. Beppe Marotta, Dario Baccin and Piero Ausilio were at the club’s training centre today and they later had lunch with Inzaghi. They analysed the manner of the defeat and discussed how they can navigate through a tough period.

They believe that it is difficult to sack the coach now because Inter play a game in every three days and a new manager will struggle to fit in during such a complex period. But if things get worse, Primavera boss Cristian Civu will become an option. The next three games could decide that.

The favourite candidate to become the next permanent boss is Roberto de Zerbi but to sign him, Inter would have to pay a compensation to Brighton and Tottenham are already interested in the Italian. Another option is Thiago Motta, who is being monitored by the club for a while and Antonio Conte is still a candidate. But when it comes to Conte, there are question marks about whether he would want to join the club after not being happy with the financial situation at the end of the previous stint.

Diego Simeone is also an option, especially if he leaves Atletico Madrid at the end of the season. But a lot could change in the next three games and they will define Inzaghi’s future.
