Jose Mourinho on suspension from the Roma-Inter match: “Double standards towards me? I think so”

Roma manager Jose Mourinho expressed discontent about his sending-off after the match against Monza this past weekend.

Speaking during the Roma-Slavia Praha pre-match press conference exclusively to Sky Sports (via Gianluca Di Marzio), Jose Mourinho felt that the league has imposed double standards against him and that he is someone being targeted time again because of his dynamic nature.

He said: “Double standards towards me? I think so. The reasons? I don’t know . If you ask me this question, it means that you think so too”.

The Portuguese manager remarked that several other coaches in the Serie A exhibit much more intense behaviour from the sidelines and they are often overlooked. He said: I am the coach of Roma, I want to be on the bench. I’m very sorry not to be on the bench. bench, but the only reason I regret is not being on the bench with my team. There is no other reason. Do I deserve this disqualification or not? That’s another topic. I’ve seen other coaches make the same gesture, and I’ve seen coaches do worse than me, but with me, it’s always the same story. I had a super correct attitude throughout the season, I was sent off for that gesture… I repeat, if it’s like this for me, it must be like this for everyone.”

Jose Mourinho was sent off from Roma’s match against Monza after he reportedly showed a ‘crying’ gesture towards the opponent’s bench and it was likely to have been directed towards Biancorossi boss Raffaele Palladino. Therefore, he will miss the Giallorossi’s significant clash versus Inter this weekend.

It wasn’t the first time that Mourinho has been sent off from the bench and he had been sent off multiple times in the previous campaign. And it won’t be first time that he will not be available on the bench for a game against Inter, for whom he has already confessed to having older emotions for.
