Luciano Spalletti edges close to Italy manager role

Luciano Spalletti (64) is edging closer towards becoming the new Italy national team manager. Reportedly, it could be a matter of days before he gets announced.

Former Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti will become the new manager of the Italian national team, according to Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato. He also claims that Spalletti will be announced as the new manager on the 16th of August, which would be Wednesday.

64-year-old Spalletti led Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years last season and decided to take a sabbatical afterwards. However, he is still contracted to the club, so the FIGC would have to discuss a termination of his contract with Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis.

Before Napoli, Spalletti most notably coached Roma and Inter. The Tuscan manager will be presented with the task of qualifying for EURO 2024 in Germany this summer.
