Luis Enrique would be interested in Napoli job

Former Spain, Barcelona and Roma boss Luis Enrique would be interested in potentially managing Napoli after the exit of Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti is all but set to depart the Partenopei at the end of the season and will be in sabbatical for a year. La Gazzetta dello Sport have looked the chances of Luis Enrique returning to Serie A to manage the Partenopei from next season onwards. They state that while he rejected Chelsea, he would be interested in a potential move to Napoli.

He is still said to have a certain amount of charm for Italy from his time at Roma and he still often comes to Italy for his vacations. He believes that his first experience of managing in Serie A ended quite early and he would like to have another experience of managing in Italy, where he is said to have many friends.

Contacts between Aurelio de Laurentiis and the Spaniard have not taken place, as the club chief’s list of potential replacements in quite long and he is still considering his options. But Enrique did have contact with Atletico Madrid and it was quite a brief one. He did go to London to speak to Chelsea but he wasn’t appealed by the project on offer and their managerial choices around hiring Frank Lampard as an interim boss.

But as things stand, the Napoli job would be something that would appeal to him.
