Mateo Retegui set to start for Italy against England

Tigre striker Mateo Retegui is set to start for Italy against England on Thursday and his first appearance for the Azzurri will come as a starter against the Three Lions.

Sky Italia expect the 23-year-old to not just feature but start against Gareth Southgate’s side in the Euro qualifiers and he is expected to start over West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca, who has not played much for the Hammers since returning from an injury some weeks ago.

The backline is expected to have Rafael Toloi, Francesco Acerbi, Giovanni di Lorenzo and Leonardo Spinazzola, with Marco Verratti expected to don the captain’s armband in the heart of the park. Jorginho and Nicolo Barella are set to start alongside him in midfield, with Retegui to be flanked by Lorenzo Pellegrini and Domenico Berardi.

Retegui’s shock call up to the Azzurri came after his tally of six goals in eight appearances for Tigre in the Liga Profesional and he is currently on loan from Boca Juniors.
