Milan concern for Mike Maignan but good news for Ruben Loftus-Cheek after injuries

Both French international goalkeeper Mike Maignan and new signing from Chelsea, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, were forced off injured during AC Milan’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle in the Champions League last night, and initial assessments have been mixed.

The midfielder, who has started every competitive game since joining the San Siro club in the summer, seemed to stretch a thigh muscle when reaching to complete a cross halfway through the second half in the UCL opener. Fortunately, however, the 27-year-old is only suffering from cramps, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, meaning he should be available for Milan’s weekend Serie A game against Hellas Verona.

Former Lille stopper Maignan, however, was forced off in the 82nd minute with a left flexor muscle issue. Like Loftus-Cheek, Maignan has had a history of injuries and missed a sizeable chunk of last season with a calf injury. Assessments are ongoing, and the goalkeeper’s possible period of absence has yet to be determined.
