Former Roma and Inter sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed that Milan could consider hiring Luis Enrique in the event of Stefano Pioliโs exit.
The Rossoneri have not won a game in about a month and they recently fell to a 3-1 loss to Udinese, after being held to a 1-1 draw by Salernitana. Results have not gone in their favour this year, especially since 2023 didnโt start off in the best possible way and Pioli had come under pressure.
There could be more pressure on the Italianโs shoulders now, especially if things donโt turn around quickly. Sabatini believes that Enrique, who is currently a free agent, could be someone that Milan pursue because of Ricky Massaraโs liking for the Spaniard.
Sabatini told La Gazzetta dello Sport,ย when asked about whether Massara will consider hiring Enrique or not: โAssuming that the replacement of Pioli is an issue, it is not excluded that he will do it. On the contrary: the way he knows him, he cannot fail to have a thought about himโ.
Enrique has been heavily linked with the Tottenham job in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte potentially on the verge of being sacked by the club. The Spaniard last managed a club during his time at Barcelona and he has had two different stints with the Spanish national team.
