Milan could consider hiring Luis Enrique, reveals Walter Sabatini

Former Roma and Inter sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed that Milan could consider hiring Luis Enrique in the event of Stefano Pioli’s exit.

The Rossoneri have not won a game in about a month and they recently fell to a 3-1 loss to Udinese, after being held to a 1-1 draw by Salernitana. Results have not gone in their favour this year, especially since 2023 didn’t start off in the best possible way and Pioli had come under pressure.

There could be more pressure on the Italian’s shoulders now, especially if things don’t turn around quickly. Sabatini believes that Enrique, who is currently a free agent, could be someone that Milan pursue because of Ricky Massara’s liking for the Spaniard.

Sabatini told La Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked about whether Massara will consider hiring Enrique or not: “Assuming that the replacement of Pioli is an issue, it is not excluded that he will do it. On the contrary: the way he knows him, he cannot fail to have a thought about him”.

Enrique has been heavily linked with the Tottenham job in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte potentially on the verge of being sacked by the club. The Spaniard last managed a club during his time at Barcelona and he has had two different stints with the Spanish national team.
