Milan identify Benfica’s Florentino Luis as replacement for Sandro Tonali

Milan are interested in signing Benfica’s Florentino Luis, who is seen as a replacement for the departing Sandro Tonali.

The Italian midfielder is set to join Newcastle United, who will make the move official next week after a medical was done yesterday.

Gianluca di Marzio has reported Milan are looking for a midfield signing, with Tonali leaving and Ismael Bennacer out due to a long-term injury. Florentino Luis has been identified as a key target, with the club evaluating his profile.

Contacts with the ex-Monaco player’s entourage have already taken place and Benfica will demand a fee of about €30 million to sell the 23-year-old midfielder.

Last season, Florentino played 44 games in the Portuguese league, cup and the Champions League. Throughout the season, the young midfielder failed to score goals, but he provided three assists for his teammates.

Despite his young age, Florentino already has 20 appearances in European competitions. He made his debut in the Europa League at 19 against Galatasaray and at 20 in the Champions League against Lyon. In the 2021-22 season he played on loan at Getafe, while the previous season he was on loan at Monaco, in Ligue 1.
