Milan’s Simon Kjaer after Inter loss: “I’m really sorry, especially for the fans”

Milan veteran Simon Kjaer has apologised to the club’s fans after the Rossoneri picked up a damaging loss against rivals Inter.

The Nerazzurri opened the scoring through Henrikh Mkhitaryan before Marcus Thuram stunned the Rossoneri fans with an effort that rifled into the top corner. Rafael Leao soon pulled one back in the second half for Milan, but Mkhitaryan doubled his tally and Lautaro Martinez later made it four after Theo Hernandez brought him down in the box. Summer signing Davide Frattesi added salt to Milan’s wounds by adding a fifth in stoppage time.

Milan have now lost five consecutive games to their rivals and that is the first time in Inter’s history that something like this has happened. Kjaer spoke to DAZN (via TMW) after the loss and he apologised to the club’s fans.

He said: “A derby lost like this weighs a lot. I’m really sorry, especially for the fans. Tonight they were smarter than us, we played until 3-1. It’s a process and tomorrow we have to work again.”

Kjaer was also asked about whehter Milan were left surprised by Inter’s performance and he said: “We knew that this was Inter’s style, but we thought we would win from Milan. They were good in terms of introducing the midfielders. We have to work, but our path is to play our football. I’m really sorry, especially for the fans.”
