Milan’s Yacine Adli after loss to Dortmund: “We’ll give our everything against Newcastle”

Milan midfielder Yacine Adli spoke after the club’s 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, with one game to go in the group stage of the competition.

Milan had missed a penalty early in the game through Olivier Giroud, as Marco Reus made it 1-0 minutes later. Milan did equalise through Samuel Chukwueze but as both Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw picked up injuries, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi put the final nail in the coffin for the Rossoneri.

Dortmund qualified for the next round of the competition but Milan now need to beat Newcastle in the next game and hope that the German side beat Paris Saint-Germain.

Adli spoke to Mediaset (via TMW) after the game and stated: “We’re sorry for our fans, it was a great occasion and we knew that San Siro was like this and we had this strength within us. We weren’t able to win this match and we’re sorry. We’ll give everything against Newcastle, we’ll try to win and then we’ll see what they will do in Dortmund. At this level it’s the details that make the difference, we managed to get back on level terms and in the second half we lost a bit of balance and then Thiaw’s injury also occurred.”

Kylian Mbappe had scored a late, controversial penalty against Newcastle to level the scoreline for PSG in Paris and it remains to be seen if that ends up putting the Rossoneri out of the competition.
