Roberto Mancini reveals Mario Balotelli’s Italy journey is over

Italy national team boss Roberto Mancini has revealed that former Manchester City and Inter striker Mario Balotelli’s journey with the Azzurri is over.

Mancini has shown himself to be quite an keen experimenter, when it comes to Italy’s selections upfront. Mateo Retegui was recently called up and he fired goals for the Azzurri and he previously resorted to calling up Mario Balotelli when there were no options available.

Balotelli had recently written on social media about whether the national team has no talent thriving in the forward areas and Mancini today spoke to the press from the FIGC headquarters and he was asked about Balotelli’s future and whether it is a closed chapter now.

He stated: “Well, I think so.”

Balotelli, still 32, has scored five goals for Sion in the Swiss Super League this season while playing 15 games. His debut for the Azzurri came back in 2010 and his last appearance for Italy came back in 2018, when he started a game against Poland in UEFA Nations League.
