Roma eye loan extension for Paris Saint-Germain’s Georginio Wijnaldum

Serie A side Roma are expected to complete two high-profile contract renewals in the next few days so as to avoid any competition from other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, but Georginio Wijnaldum’s future is in doubt.

According to a report from Daniele Longo, the contracts of midfielders Nemanja Matić and Bryan Cristante are expected to be renewed soon. While the 34-year-old Serbian is to renew for a year, Cristante will extend his contract until the summer of 2027, everything is reported to be sorted before as the fans await the official confirmation from the club.

When Jose Mourinho was appointed as the manager of Roma, the club hierarchy chose the long-term and next season, they are expected to form a team competitive enough to challenge for the Scudetto. This is the reason the renewals of certain players have emerged to be important.

However, the extensions of Matić and Cristante will bring forth another obstacle in Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s Roma journey. After having been badly affected by injuries in his debut season, the 32-year-old looks to be returning back to form but his performances haven’t been compelling to the board. The Giallorossi hopes to extend his loan from Paris Saint-Germain till 2024 but they won’t trigger the buy option of around €10 million.
